CERTIFICATION

In the interests of furthering the professionalism and career advancement of its members, the IAAP offers two professional certificates: the Certified Professional Secretary® rating (CPS®) and the Certified Administrative Professional® rating (CAP®).

The CPS and CAP certifications are credentials that are recognized by businesses nationally and internationally, and holding a CPS and/or CAP certificate is a mark of excellence for administrative professionals. Additionally, other benefits accrue to holders of these ratings:

  • Job Advancement: Certification gives you a competitive edge for promotion and hiring.
  • Professional Skills: You will learn more about office operations and build your skills by studying for and taking the CPS or CAP exam.
  • Salary: A recent IAAP Membership Profile study shows that CPS holders earn an average of $2,228 more per year than those who do not have certification.
  • Esteem: Attaining certification demonstrates to your employer and yourself that you are committed as a professional.
  • College Credit: Many colleges and universities offer course credit for studying for and passing the CPS exam.

The IAAP will provide you with all the necessary study materials to pass the CPS and CAP exams. If you are interested in taking either exam, please contact Lois Habenicht CPS. We at the New York City Chapter are interested in seeing more administrative professionals achieve their CPS and CAP ratings, and we will do everything we can to help you do so.

As many of you know from reading our monthly Newsletter, Admins in the Apple, the CPS and CAP exams will be undergoing a variety of changes to make sure that administrative skills are accurately reflected in the exam. To view the exam changes, please click here.

Further details regarding eligibility, registration and exam dates are available on the Frequently Asked Questions Page of the IAAP Headquarters Web site.
